(You do need a computer to make it work). I like to put on a disc and just let it play though but you have the option of skipping around. They are only about 2X2. I got mine at Circuit City which has gone the way of the Dodo now, but I got a good deal. I have an Ipod and this is much easier to find specific songs on. The batteries last a long time and it's easy to download from your computer.
It's very sturdy and easy to use. I bought one of these a few years ago and didn't pay anywhere near this ridiculous price. You have to buy the little mini-discs and each disc holds about 75 song and you can erase and rerecord freely. I don't mind carrying around a couple discs.
The added feature of an FM radiowas a pleasant surprise. This minidisc did the basics of recording and playback very well, considering it was so inexpensive. Lotsa music for the buck and less expensive thenthe over-rated MP3,which is in the same ATRAC format.
the radio is a plus to me, though at times i have seen am/fm in the sellers text - but there is no am that i ahve yet to figure out. yet, have ordered myself another one as a backup. i love this product. have never heard anything on the tv or weather portion (could be the area i am in).
I don't ever before remember seeing such a wide scattered variety of opinions on this Sony Net MD, but here's mine. You may not use it for what I do, but this is perfect for 2 very important uses for me. For practices, we use Sonys MDS-JE-480 home stereo MD player(about $150.00) It's better than using CD's (Cause you don't have to keep changing them for every time you need to listen to the next song), or mp3's, computers, or anything else I've EVER used. Some don't like the idea that you can't record other MD's back to your computer, or the softwarte or ipods are better or whatever.
My other recorder can record digital or analog and the MD walkman will play either one back on the disk, and now with prices cheap, they're a steal.something for everybody. My other recorder records the game(xm radio has made this part a dream come true)and this unit is my playback, so I can listen to the games ANYTIME-ANYWHERE. The other thing I use it for is playback of a baseball game. #2 If you take TOO much stock in what you read, you'll never buy anything. Last year I was looking to buy a higher end keybaord and every good review I read, some others tanked it down. I'd buy 10 of them. I'm in a cover band (we do not write our own songs), but its so easy to use mini disks and the remotes for them.
And there's one more thing: It will play back my old music albums that are out of print. I read a lot of reviews, and I've learned two things: #1 Can't please everybody. This for me, is perfect. You can add, move, or delete songs as you need, or erase the MD completely to use over again(try that on a CD).
I've been looking for these MP3 players & recorders for 3 years, luckily I found you guys with them.I love the portability of my music(jazz).I like the Sony minidiscs better than the iPod.Thanka
